Not every slip disc needs surgery and that’s something many patients are relieved to hear. From a neurosurgeon’s perspective, most cases of a slip disc (herniated disc) can be effectively managed without an operation. With the right combination of rest, targeted physiotherapy and medications, inflammation settles, nerve irritation reduces and symptoms gradually improve. The body often has a remarkable ability to heal itself when supported correctly. However, it’s important to monitor symptoms closely. Persistent pain, progressive weakness or issues like loss of bladder or bowel control may require timely surgical intervention. Early evaluation and the right guidance can make all the difference between recovery and prolonged discomfort.
